Habitat For Humanity ReStore

This is a great little store when you're working on house projects. All of the items Habitat for Humanity removes from the houses they help repair and tear down (right down to the screws!), is in this store. I've picked up some awesome (odd sized) lightbulbs, a brass pineapple door-knocker and a sweet wooden chair. Unless you're really on the hunt for a giant kitchen cabinet or some random white bathroom tile, this store is very hit or miss. They have loads of screws, doorknobs, leftover paint, 90's brass chandeliers, drawer pulls and more. Its more like parts of a house, verses decoration for your home. But if that's what you're looking for, this is the place! 

It's worth checking out at least once. I probably only visit 2-3x a year, but usually walk out with a few things in hand!

Leola Thrift Shoppe

I'll never forget the day I stumbled upon this little gem of a store. I was on my way to the Re-Uzit Shop of New Holland when I drove past this place, quickly pulled a u-turn in a church parking lot, and headed back to check it out. I remember when I walked in the door and saw how organized and clean everything was, I actually turned around to say something to the lady at the register and thank her. Haha!

When I visited the store last week to snap these photos, I was thrilled to see that they're in the middle of expanding. More treasures for everyone! Happy thrifting!

Housewares: Yes!

Furniture: Not really. I found a nice basket, a magazine rack and small shelf once. But no actual furniture.

Organized: YES. One of the more organized stores I've ever been to.

Clean: Yes. The store and the items are really clean. It's great. They wash everything before it goes out on the floor. So awesome.

Bathroom: Yes. Nice and clean, right around the corner of the front door.

Carts/Baskets: Baskets.

Best Section: Housewares. So clean and cheap.

Cash/Credit: They accept both!

Sales: You'd have to call, I've never seen any regular occurring sales posted.

Re-Uzit Shop of New Holland

This thrift store is without a doubt the biggest one I've ever been to. It's two floors with room after room of treasures to dig through. Their prices are, in my opinion, a little higher than I'd like, but with so much to choose from you kind of get over it. I have found many of my favorite items from the Re-Uzit Shop of New Holland, like my punch bowl and ship glasses. They have an entire Christmas section year round that's always full of stuff and a great selection of blankets and linens which I always take the time to dig through. When you go, plan to spend at least an hour there if you really want to see everything. And bring cash if you only want to buy a thing or to! Happy thrifting!

Clothing: Yes. SO MUCH. Relatively organized and color sorted.

Housewares: Yes. Rooms of them.

Furniture: Yes. The second floor is all furniture. Priced OK.

Organized: Overall, yes. But the store is so massive, it can seem overwhelming as a whole.

Clean: Yes. The items are pretty clean, but their stickers are harder to remove than most. It's annoying.

Bathroom: Yes. Up on the second floor.

Carts/Baskets: Both..

Best Section: Dishes. Hundreds and hundreds of them. 

Cash/Credit: They accept both. They kindly suggest a $10 minimum credit purchase.

Sales: They rotate weekly based on the colors of the price stickers.

Thrift 4 U

Don't laugh. It's better than it sounds. Although every time I say to T.J. that I'm heading out to shop there, we both say it with giant hand gestures "4 U!!!" They recently moved their thrift store 1/2 a block down the street and combined it with their furniture location.  I'm not as crazy about it now that they've combined them, but maybe it will get better with time.

I tend to find only a thing or two here, but their prices are pretty good, so I go back anytime I'm in the Elizabethtown area. I hit up Mt. Joy Gift & Thrift, then the Elizabethtown Goodwill and then end at Thrift 4 U before I turn around and come home. 

Like all thrift stores, it's worth checking out once. I would say I walk out with stuff in my hands half the time I visit. My favorite finds from Thrift 4 U would be my pair of ship paintings and these vintage postcards.

Mt. Joy Gift & Thrift

I tend to visit Mt. Joy Gift & Thrift quite frequently cause it's not too far from my house! It's a decent size with rooms for each section of the store. I usually find the most stuff in the linens/lamps/housewares area. But I also rarely, basically never, look for clothes. So heck! Maybe you'll have a lot of luck in the clothing section. It seems to be well organized and has two tiny kid section rooms too! 

This store always seems to have nice Christmas + seasonal area, a good selection of blankets and comforters, and pretty vintage dishware. 

My favorite find (so far) from Mt. Joy Gift & Thrift would be my strawberry cookie jar. It's the bombdiggity.

Bathroom: Yes! Its near the dressing room and you sort of feel like you're going into their back room.

Best Section: In my opinion, the seasonal section or the art supplies room. I've purchased a lot of fabric from them!

Jubilee / Palmyra

The Palmyra Jubilee is absolutely adorable. It's an old schoolhouse and super quaint. Hardwood floors, old windows and two floors of treasures to sort through. They have a snack area (bologna anyone?) upstairs, along with bathrooms, clothing and a few household items. I actually have no idea why some of the Jubilee locations have two different floors where you have to pay separately. Downstairs is artwork, books, housewares, additional clothing, records, a christmas section, frames, linens and random odds 'n ends furniture. 

This is my third favorite Jubilee location. You should check it out at least one. I usually try to hit up the Goodwill in Palmyra and Blue Mountain Thrift in Anneville when I'm out that direction. And if you wanted to keep going to the Jubilee, Goodwill and Humane Society Thrift Shop of Lebanon that'd be a nice string of shops to hit up!

Bathroom: Yes! Its cute and tiny.

Best Section: In my opinion, it might be the books? All of their books are 25¢ each, which makes it great to load up on ones just because they're a pretty color.

Cash/Credit: They accept both.

Sales: They change daily. You can check their website or call them!

Jubilee / Manheim

I spend a lot of my “free time” shopping at different thrift and vintage stores and am often asked the questions, “Where did you get that! How did you find that!?!” Hopefully this series will do two things — 1. Help you decide which stores to shop at, and 2. Help me remember where I purchased my favorite items.

I'm kicking things off with the store I visit the most – Jubilee (Manheim location). I visit this store the most because it is literally down the street from my house. Plus it's next to the Turkey Hill in town, which we walk to wayyyy too often. Jubliee is a ministry with seven different stores in the central Pennsylvania area, with their store proceeds supporting Jubilee's work of sharing Christ through community and prison ministries. They are all around a great place. Manheim's Jubilee has some of the fairest prices in Lancaster County for sure.

Furniture: A little. It's a brand new section of the store.

Bathroom: Yes! Praise Jesus. You have no idea how many times I walk in the door and realize I need a bathroom. Very clean!

Carts/Baskets: Yes, both. I've only needed to use a cart once before… most of their items are smaller and fit in a basket.

Best Section: In my opinion, it's the housewares. There is always an excellent selection of vintage and unique items.

Cash/Credit: They accept both.

Sales: They have different daily sales, which are posted on a little sign outside their store. They also have a $.10 sale twice a year. You”ll be a lucky lad if you happen to shop there on one of those days!

Salvation Army / Lancaster

Today's Thrifty Review is for the Salvation Army in Lancaster. It's enormous. In a good way… but also in an overwhelming way. The store is mostly clothing, but also has a back wall full of housewares and a small area of used furniture. I really only visit this store on Wednesdays, when almost everything is half off! But go early on Wednesdays or you'll miss out!

Clean: The items themselves are semi-clean, but due to the unorganized areas of the stores, it can seem messy.

Bathroom: Yes. Easy to find.

Carts/Baskets: Yes.

Best Section: The furniture, but only if you go on a day that's 50% off.

Cash/Credit: They accept both.

Sales: Every Wednesday is 50% off certain colored tagged items. They write their daily sales just inside the front door on a white board.

Blue Mountain Thrift

Today”s Thrift Store Review is for Blue Mountain Thrift Store in Anneville, PA. A friend introduced me to this store and I just about had a heart attack when we walked in and I saw how giant it was. I”m pretty sure my first words were “Holy crap”… followed by sheer panic and “I NEED A PLAN!!!” It”s easy to miss stuff when places are so large! I”ve found quite a few gems at Blue Mountain Thrift and suggest that anyone in the Lancaster County area take the time to visit it at least once in their lives.

Clothing: Yes. Racks on racks on racks.

Housewares: Yes. Although they're kind of all over the place.

Furniture: Yes!! They have a lot of furniture that's moderately priced. Most of the time the items are in great shape, which is nice if you find exactly what you were looking for.

Organized: Clothing – Yes. Housewares – Ehh. Furniture – As much as possible.

Clean: Sort of. The store, more like warehouse, is seriously enormous. So I'm sure they do all they can.

Bathroom: Yes. Easy to find and smells lovely! I use it every time I go. That might have more to do with the store's proximity to McDonalds and how quickly I drink my iced coffee every time. Hmm...

Carts/Baskets: Yes.

Best Section: Either the linens, lamps or general housewares.

Cash/Credit: They accept both.

Sales: Sales change weekly. Check the “Product” page of their website for current sales.

Jubilee / Lebanon

I’ll never forget the day I found the Jubilee store in Lebanon. I was at Lebanon’s Goodwill to see their items and on my way out I asked the lady at the cash register if there were any other thrift/vintage stores close by. She told me that Jubilee store was just a few blocks away and I just about ran out the door throwing caution and my newly found brass animal to the wind. I was literally texting T.J. photos of Jubilee as I walked through it for the first time. (Nerd alert.) Ha! It’s really not anything that spectacular, but as far as thrift stores go, it is. Jubilee stores are incredibly clean and organized. It’s amazing. This specific Jubilee location might be my favorite. Although, I have yet to visit all of their locations. Someday… someday. In the meantime, I hope you take an afternoon to go and visit the store in Lebanon. Tell them Brooke sent you. They have no idea who I am. But tell them anyway.

Furniture: Yes! Great prices too! Sometimes I want to buy extra lamps and chairs just because they’re so cheap!

Organized: Clothing – yes. Housewares – yes. Everything – YES. Lord bless them.

Clean: Always.

Bathroom: Yep!

Carts/Baskets: Yes.

Best Section: The housewares room. It used to be called “Discount Land”.

Cash/Credit: They accept both.

Sales: Every week they have something on sale. The sales typically run from Wednesday to Tuesday. In addition to this, they have reduced items which are marked with red reduced tags. There are also in-store non-advertised sales. The last Monday of every month (excluding holidays) is a store-wide sale at 25% off.
